IFRC Poised To Boost Their Standard Of Operations
Speaking at the opening of a conference a 3-day workshop to adopt a youth policy in line with the International Federation of Red Cross (IFRC) and Red Crescent Societies and to help streamline the youth in the humanitarian service organisations on 15th September, 2017 in Accra, the West Coast Group Chairman and President of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Elder Bolaji Anani Akpan, emphasized that the workshop would help build the capacity of the regional group to enhance the operations of the respective National Societies and set a regional standard for their operations.
Elder Anani praised the Sierra Leonean NS for the good work they did and still continued to do to help the survivors and affected families in the recent mudslide disaster.
He also commended Ghana for her good works and called on other member countries to follow suit.
The President of the Ghana Red Cross Society (GRCS), Dr. Michael Agyekum Addo, disclosed some activities, challenges and successes of the Ghana RC to the participants.
Saying, the NS has over the years played many important roles in offering humanitarian services in and outside the country.
The Ghana NS, according to him, was committed to sustaining its fundamental principles of ensuring higher standards of services to maintain its voluntary services, unity, independence, impartiality, neutrality and universality of services to all humanity.
Mr. Agyekum said, the meeting will also be a platform for experience and knowledge sharing, in order for member countries to learn from one another and agree on standards to guide the operations of the group in the region, and discuss strides made on some commitments by the group at the pan-African conference held in Abidjan.
He hereafter said, it’ll also invest in the regional partnerships among African national societies, to facilitate cross-border collaborations in support of migrants, early warning and shared reduction, among other commitments.
